The Music of Stage & Screen
The annual SYO Inc. winter concert is set for Sunday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at Third Avenue United Church.
The Saskatoon Youth Orchestra brings to life the holiday favourite The Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein in the acoustically and aesthetically beautiful environment of Third Avenue United Church, while the Saskatoon Strings perform childhood treasure A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Also on the program for the youth orchestra will be the epic and forbidding theme to Star Trek Into Darkness, which includes motifs from the original series. It's the type of movie music that sends shivers down your spine when heard live in front of a full orchestra. The orchestra will also perform Tchaikovsky's haunting Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture -- a beautiful piece that has been used countless times in television and movies.
